Midnight Commander UTF8 line drawing characters problem

As UTF8 encoding is by default installed/enabled in RedHat Enterprise Linux 6.5 / CentOS and similar distros, it drives me mad to have weird line characters in terminal when I logged in via SecureCRT/Putty due UTF-8 encoding.

However, there are some workarounds line run mc -ac , or export LANG=C but its not exactly bulletproof. And its related to MC only. So, in troubleshooting step up in food chain, leads to NCURSES

So, to be able have nice lines in Midnight Commander or any other NCURSES application , you must export this:

export NCURSES_NO_UTF8_ACS=1

put this to /homedir/.bash_profile per user or system wide in /etc/profile.d

done, finally

hope it help you 😉
