Linux “find” cheat sheet

Some collection on various find tasks I experienced from time to time. Find is powerfull tool, often overlooked, but its lifesaver. Enjoy, if you have something more, please, share in comments.

  • Find directories not owned by root

    find /var ! -user root -type d –ls

    which lead to resulst like this :

  • Find directories owned by USERNAME:

    find /var/lib  -user mysql -type d -ls


  • Find newest files recursively and sort them – very usefull Winking smile

    find . -type f -printf "%TY-%Tm-%Td %TT %p\n" | sort -r | less
